Nicknamed “”fruit of the angels””, the papaya is the fruit of the papaya tree, tropical tree native from Africa and South Mexico. With its bright orange color and its delicious taste, papaya has already conquered our tastebuds since hundreds of years.
The papaya tree, or Carica Papaya L., belongs to the botanical family of Caricaceae. There are male scions, female scions and dual-sex scions. Only female and dual-sex scions produce sweet-tasting fruits. True concentrate of vitamins A, B1, B2 and especially vitamin C, a papaya alone contains the daily-recommended supply of vitamin C.
Between the papaya pulp and its skin, is found a small quantity of latex, which will diminish progressively with the fruit maturation. From this latex, we can isolate an enzyme called papain, long known by the amazonian population for its cosmetic properties. Thanks to its keratolytic action, it eliminates dead cells at the epidermis surface without affecting healthy cells and thus help with cell renewal: it is the ideal ingredient for an enzymatic exfoliation (beads-free), for a garanteed healthy and radiant complexion.
AHA fruit acids contained in the papaya help the elimination of skin dead cells, and have also an astringent effect that smoothes and tightens skin pores for a unified complexion. They contribute to the reduction of dark spots caused by skin aging.
This surprising fruit also contains a good quantity of antioxidants fighting against free radicals and thus against the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.
